The equine ISOLATED FEVER syndrome refers to a complex set of symptoms that are often numerous and non-specific, such as hyperthermia, weakness, anorexia, anemia or jaundice. These symptoms may derive from infectious but non-contagious diseases caused either by parasites such as Theileria equi and Babesia caballi, or by bacteria such as Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Borrelia spp.
The Epona tests for the isolated fever are next generation of molecular POC tests, allowing the detection of a genomic fragment of Theileria equi, Babesia caballi, Anaplasma phagocytophilum and/or Borrelia spp. in a reliable and rapid manner in order to obtain indications as to the pathogen(s) that are involved in the appearance of the observed symptoms.
Unlike traditional PCR tests, Epona tests require few preparation steps, on a portable and easy-to-use reading instrument. The result can be obtained in less than 40 minutes.
