Astéria Haemobartonellosis

At present, it is difficult to define the exact mode of transmission of the disease. Nevertheless, fleas and ticks may act as vectors of transmission, as may bites or blood transfusions. Certain factors seem to increase the risk of infection by some species of haemotropic mycoplasmas or worsen the disease, such as sex, age, lack of pedigree, outdoor access, the presence of wounds, infection with a retrovirus (seropositivity to FeLV or FIV)…

Symptoms

Main clinical signs

Feline or canine haemobartonellosis, also known as haemotropic mycoplasmosis, is a disease caused by a parasitic bacterium of the genus Mycoplasma. Symptoms of the disease may be non-specific in some individuals; however, in the most severe cases, infection causes severe anaemia that can lead to the death of the animal.
